I never paid too much attention to these things. But what would happen if they were able to bring these plants back? Would there be any kind of environmental changes? Probably not eh?

There were at least 2 massive 'Life-Terminating-Deep-Impacts' within that time frame that could account for the degree of Ash Dispersion required.

It will be interesting to see what, if any, creature fossils they find.

I could be wrong, but in that time period I don't believe there was much in the way of creatures. They hadn't come into existance yet

During this time there were also animals. This is when the first groups of mammals, turtles, lepidosaurs and archosaurs started to roam the Earth. Scientist believe that the Permian—and with it the entire Paleozoic era—ended with the largest mass extinction ever, which obliterated 90 percent of the marine and 70 percent of the terrestrial species.

Even though this isn't as popular as the asteroid that killed off the dinosaurs, that's pretty mind-boggling how much life was wiped out at that time.
