I really miss the great restaurants in Chicago. Some great Korean places there around Lincoln Park. Had some kind of raw marinated beef and those sea food pancake things at a place around there. Was amazing. Their soup is awesome as well. Wish I could remember the name....

Myk is like a dumb version of Koneg.
That said, Korean food outside of Korea is good as long as there is a significant Korean population and access to imported ingredients. Toronto has Koreatown, and it looks, smells, and tastes like dirty downtown Seoul. The food is fantastic.
The best Korean food in the world is in South Jeolla province. Backyard-fresh, grandma's home-cooking quality.

I've only had it once, and that was in Portland Or. I ordered poorly because it had some sweet peanut sauce on it..and I don't like sweet food. I'm sure if someone more in the know would have ordered for me..it would have been more to my taste.

Korean food doesn't use sweet peanut sauce so your first problem was probably that you were going to a Thai place instead. |

I told you earlier. L.A. has great Korean food. Oakland is pretty good. I expect NYC has great Korean food too.
edit: And yes smelly, soft tofu soup is in my top three foods period. It has to be made right though. Some of the lame Korean places here in the states don't use the little fish that make the broth so good. They use beef broth instead which is ok but not nearly as good.
