When people were blaming Bush for high gas prices it was mostly about changes which allowed more speculation in the commodity markets. I think there is still merit to that argument but I am not aware of any attempt to address that issue.

IMO the best thing Obama can do is create a more active reserve that can help handle these issues but then private businesses will just keep less reserves themselves. Bastards.

We do have active reserves mid-country that are much cheaper oil than that utilized by our refineries on the coasts. The quoted prices per barrel are based on that much cheaper oil, so when we are importing oil directly to the coasts its much more expensive oil. In effect, the daily quote on price per barrel is misleading but its the best we have to go on in terms of planning. OPEC doesn't quite see it that way.

We'll never see $5.00 / gallon gasoline. When we get close the republican's will call for the destruction of the next country of brown people. Then when the price creeps back up we'll again sacrifice thousands more of our young working class men for cheap oil and record profits.

I remember one time I posted a thread here blaming high gas prices on President Bush. The RWNs flung themselves at me like so many flying monkeys for daring to suggest the president had something to do with gas prices.

Under President Bush gas was over $4 a gallon but fell to $1 and change after he opened up leases and allowed drilling to resume. Screw the speculators. If the current administration would quite kow-towing to the Greenies and open up the Gulf and both coasts as well as land-based drilling and refining, we'd see a similar drop in our prices. His recent move against Canada was just foolish. Costs jobs and doesn't help the cost at the pump. I can't tell if he's really that clueless or if this is just part of his plan. At some point, some rational thought is going to have to prevail when it comes to drilling... isn't it?

WTF are we giving other countries money to assist in their off-shore drilling when we reap absolutely no benefit from it?

how is it this winter has been probably the mildest of my lifetime and heating oil is at over 4 bucks a gallon.

I haven't used half the oil I did last year, yet the prices are pretty much all time high.

anyway we need to get away from gas.. long over due.

It will end our dealings and wars in the middle east.. and they'll have to figure out how to make a profit from sand.

Sucks we buy oil from our enemies. They work with us and do business with us but they are enemies of the West.
