If you're going to make a 'get a real job' comment, do it to someone working at a fast food place or doing menial day labor. Being a server at a restaurant that's a couple steps up might not be impressive or flashy, but you can make a livable income - from tips.
Doesn't surprise me that you missed the point 
I never said the customer was the only D-Bag in this situation.

Exactly. If it is a mom and pop restaurant (versus a chain), it can also get you banned from the restaurant unless you had a really good reason for doing it.
It is also stupid if you ever plan to return there since you are guaranteed to get poor service even if they don't do anything to your food.
