I would say they are bad because they are funding terrorism in places like Lebanism and other places. Also they have a police state. They are only a concern of the US if their foreign policy is a direct threat to the US or its close allies like Israel.
The people in Iran as a whole want to be free.

The syrians had their military in Lebanon and the lebanese protested forcing the syrians to leave in 2006 - then immediately afterwards they were attacked by Israel.
The situation is quite a bit complex.

The only reason I made this post was because I heard a local right-wing Christian lunatic on a radio talk show say this morning that killing Iranians before they hit us is what we need to do.
