I started a bit later on DAoC (just after SI release), but did lots of levelling in DF of course, exciting and some fun fights, you got to learn the ropes too when it came to PVP.
Action was sporadic there, though good concept indeed.
Remind me, could you enter another realm through DF in some cases?

Stairs were too big to climb, and guarded by some huge level guardians

After our first merger there were some hibs that pwned so many noobs in df. They would somehow pwn everything with their aoe DoTs and the clowns would keep running back to get pwned by the same 4 hibs over and over until a half decent group would roll out and kill them.
I was annoyed cuz I was a cave shaman and my dots wouldnt hit for even half of that damage. Nor would they stack!

Nope only area that connected different frontier zones was the summoner's hall / frontier dungeons. But that's NF.
I'm trying to remember if there were DF entrances in the frontiers though.

There were ways to get into another realm but DF wasn't one of them IIRC. Mostly involved geometry problems.

I think someone in my first guild said that that's why those giant shades were there at the entrance, to prevent that from happening. I dunno. I never saw anyone from another faction get close enough to get attacked by one of them.
I do remember a time when a bunch of Hibs somehow got through the zone wall and camped Vasudheim for a while killing everyone who walked outside Jordheim lol

You could get through holes in the frontier gates for a while after release until they put uberguards all around them to prevent it
It was easy to get past the albion frontier gate, all you needed to do was side step into a corner and you'd clip right through all the textures
