The dialog has been pulled so far to the right, she could no longer survive within her party.
If she were a new candidate deciding to run today, is there any doubt she would now have to be a dem? Her views have been fairly consistent if you listen to her speak. It isn't her that's changed.

She wasn't a RINO when she started.. RWNs have pushed their ideology to the farthest right extreme and many of the dems like to chase them in that rightward direction.

At least now she can vote the way she feels like and doesn't have to worry about being pressured by her party to do what they want instead of what she wants.
Snowe isn't a RINO, she is an almost perfect example of a Reagan Republican (which is a shitty thing to be, but no where near as shitty as being an evangelical/Koch Republican). She didn't leave the belief and convictions of the Republican party behind her, the Republican party went batshit insane and became the party that hates freedom, hates women, hates gays, hates sex, hates the 21st and 20th century, hates the USA.....and worships whatever the far right extremists that bankroll it tell them to worship.
