The point of 99% of all so called betas these days is to get people interested by releasing a glorified demo while at the same time stroking their ego by making them feel special for being "beta testers". When in reality all necessary testing has already been done.
Then an actual beta comes along and everyone is like "wtf doesn't stuff work?!"

Not this time...we basically logged on, everyone on same spot, run around
and chat (mostly about how great DAOC was )
Chat alone was enough for me to proclaim event a success

It's been a long time since any beta really has been anything but a glorified demo. Everything about the game is already done, they just want performance checks. They couldn't care less about our opinions. This started happening not long after Wow was released and is a big part of the reason why most everything since has failed miserably.
