It would be easy to jump on Obama for this, but I actually agree with it.
The G8/G20/etc meeting locations have turned into a lightning rod for all sorts of crazies, anarchists and professional protesters.
It costs the hosting cities literally millions of dollars for security and to repair all the damage the protesters do each time it is held.

It looks like Obama traded potential disaster, both political, economic and physical, in the future for a small political hit now. OWS won now. We'll have to see if they can pull of a bigger win in the future.
