I am the anti country club type. I receive invitations from women who invite me to their club, where they have the The Shermie ( a beloved member) annual swatathon. I feel like Nick Caraway at a Gatsby party.

I have one friend who lives in the high desert , a very remote place with cheap real estate. He joined the local country club. I couldn't even believe one existed there. The greens are not exactly green and the restaurant looks more like a Tommy's burger and is rated, "B," for be careful by the Health Dept.

This is a friend who occasionally will go off the wagon and epic disasters happen. His last time he got his car stuck on a railroad track and he got out of the car and sat down on a hillside and finished off his bottle and watched a train crash into his car.



Anyway I digress. Country clubs are cartoon breeding grounds for conservatives.

People at country clubs are clean as opposed to people who are not at country clubs.

Did it once for work back in the day. I didn't fit in, to say the least.

I don't think I made one contact there that I ever did any business with. Waste of money, but at least it wasn't mine.

There is a local country club that is really part of the Mariott golf resorts chain. If you're a member, golfing is much less expensive. Unfortunately, you'd have to golf A LOT to make up the cost in being a member and I don't golf that much. If I did golf that much though, I would certainly join the club. As it is, they let you play as a non-member too, you just don't get priority on tee times. Oh, membership in that club gives you reciprocity with all other Mariott courses as well.

A friend of mine used to be a member and we played at Seaview as part of the deal. He also played at Marco Island... so it's not such a bad gig if you golf a lot, at least with this one.

Ive never tried to find one and never noticed them. Seems kind of dumb to me - i wouldnt want to go to the same community center all the time.

I was a bartender at a country club when I was 21. I observed many cartoon type characters backbite each other. I think Caddyshack is not too far off

I probably should belong to one, for work and networking.

I don't.

I still get by fine. If that holds up another 8-10 years, then I won't need to be in one. And I won't want to be in one.

The "social" and "professional/social" aspects of country clubs is a huge downer for me. Most of the people who are members of those sorts of organizations for social or social/professional reasons are exactly the kind of people that I dislike being around.

Now, if it became professionally necessary for me, like my company said, "you're going to be a member of the Elks club and here's your $10k fees", then I'd go and golf and do what I had to... but my career isn't that sort of career lol!
