The ancient greeks have spoken! However since Cheesecake has no leavening agents or flour it is a pie, just as the article states. I assume you stopped reading after you got that historical footnote.

I don't buy them. I spent about 4 years working in a bakery. I made plenty of cheesecakes, and plenty of meringues of different types too. They're similar in that they're all pies.
just because you're a dumbass and forgot to add a crust doesn't change what cheesecake is. HTH
