Green Day is pop or bubblegum punk. I put them up there as being as punk as Avril Lavigne.
The Sex Pistols were punk. Early DRI before Crossover is punk. Black Flag, The Dead Kennedys... that is punk.

Can you name any 'successful' bands (whatever definition you prefer) that didn't 'sell out' at some point? I honestly can't think of any. I think even Phish and The Grateful Dead had sponsors on their tours.

I don't think Slayer has ever sold out musically. they still make the same thrash they did 30ish years ago.
