I noticed American websites in general are very sensitive when it comes to certain words (mind you words, not their meaning) but I had no idea it was ingrained so deeply into your culture.
Do 8 year old German kids run around saying "Go to hell!" and "To hell with that!" and "What the hell is going on?" auf Deutsch?
I don't know if there is an equivalent to it, but I think it's not so much about the word itself as it is about the concept and it is generally considered an "adult" word - but one you can say in most "professional" conversation.
There are subtleties to all language, the use of hell is not the same as sh*t, f***, bitch, ass, c**k, pussy, etc. The use of the word hell is similar to damn with respect to acceptability in polite/professional/formal conversation - damn is OK if you're using it in the classic sense such as "That was fairly damning evidence" even as a kid in grade school, but if you say "Damn you!" or "Goddamn it!" as a kid, you're going to get a talking to, and in professional conversation, it's considered relatively crude.
