Financial firms were never exactly altruistic organizations. But top-drawer firms used to be about long-term financial success, for themselves as well as the clients, instead of short-term boiler-room pump-and-dump tactics screw over clients for quarterly gains. It is what separated them from the boiler rooms, in fact. Now, GS has itself become a boiler room and nobody in their right mind should trust a dime with them.
A better example than GS itself, though, would be its former leader, Jon Corzine. There is no better example of what the financial world has turned into.
