This is probably a good thing. I think the best way for us to completely get rid of all of the morality legislation we currently have is to put it under a microscope and out in the middle of the discourse now.

If your logic is such that you can't navigate your way out of a literal interpretation of the bible, then software engineering is not for you.

Meh, I know a ton of religious devs.

Only problem I've ever seen that present for them is the inability to work on Sundays and sometimes holidays. Come crunch time, no one cares when your sabbath is. Or when your holidays are.

"Religous" devs - yes. I've met a few as well. Most of the educated who are also religious take scripture as metaphoric, which is exactly how it was intended by its authors. They still tend to think for themselves.

Nutballs who can only comprehend literal interpretations of ancient books - not so much. Those with an inability to think outside of the explicit will find a world of fail in software engineering.

Not so sure I agree on the thought process argument.

Socially it will be difficult - of that there is no doubt. And if you are an evangelical, forget it. Engineers won't tolerate it.

I never talk about my beliefs with people unless its brought up or I'm asked. But then again I tend to forget the other people around me when I'm working, unless I have to converse with them for one reason or another. For the most part I just keep to myself. Talking with others only when needed, for the most part. Not always though.

I dont do the whole have to have sundays off kinda thing. I dont attend church. The time I have off I spend with my wife and kids.

Are there any software engineers here? How often do you end up doing calculus when programming? Being relatively new to the whole programming field Im not sure if we encounter it much. Or if I should do it for the class's sake and then not worry about it. Or maybe do it and keep doing it even after if it will help me with programming. You guys have any ideas?

The more frothy nutballs on each side think they know what the original authors intended.

I bet Santorum is only allowed sex once a month, on a Saturday night, between 11:00pm and 11:15pm, no lights on, fully clothed except pants, missionary only, with covers up to the neck.

Grats on trying to mentally picture Santorum having sex.
