I've never heard of gerrymandering being used to replace someone with someone else of the same party. The concept doesn't even make sense unless the party wants the guy out.

The Democrats there could have picked Kucinich. They didn't.

Ohio lost two seats from the 2010 Census so someone was going to have to lose.

Ohio lost two congressional seats due to changes in population.

Republicans control the state, so when they redrew the congressional boundaries...they of course eliminated two districts that had long been held by Democrats. In Kuciniches case, his new district was made up of a majority of what used to be in his opponents old district.

By doing this, the GOP in Ohio insured that one of them would lose, and it would almost certainly be Kucinich. Kaptur, who beat him in the primary is solidly progressive and a huge backer of labor just like Kucinich. She is not as strong an advocate against use of military force by the US, though she too voted against the Iraq war.

In the end it came down to the fact that many more people in the new district had been voting for Marcy Kaptur for years, than had been voting for Kucinich. So he lost.

Just like the gerrymandering carried out by Republicans intended him to do.

Elections have consequences.

Same reason we are stuck with Kagan and Sotomayor.

I would vote for Kucinich for President in a heart beat. His views on government and it's role are very close to mine on most subjects. Closer than any other elected official I can think of.

That said, he isn't White House material. To be that he would have to be able to gain the support of a sizable segment of the voting population.....and that isn't going to happen in either his or my lifetime.

People are idiots and don't want to hear the truth, they want to be told their illusions are real.

I live in eastern Tennessee, what Democratic primary process?

And you of all people should know that the primary process is a farce. Kabuki theater for the masses. I support candidates I approve of nationwide as it's more important to win a close battle in Vermont than rail against the idiots who are going to win 80% of the vote in Tennessee.

I do that too though of course.

You certainly are a smug little ponce since you became a Dr. Paul worshiper aren't you?

And Democrats didn't want to keep Kucinich because they prefer their Democrats more like Bush III.
