(AP) STOCKHOLM - Sweden was the first European country to introduce bank notes in 1661. Now it's come farther than most on the path toward getting rid of them.

"I can't see why we should be printing bank notes at all anymore," says Bjoern Ulvaeus, former member of 1970's pop group ABBA, and a vocal proponent for a world without cash.

Apparently the computer they use to compile all of the cashless transactions is a Beast of a machine.

Sometimes when I go do Drudge, I play this game where I try to match up the headline with the person who will post it.

I got this one wrong...it had Brother Tedious's "FIAT CURRENCY" written all over it. Then again BT loves him some double posts, so maybe I still have a shot!

"After his son was robbed for the third time he started advocating a faster transition to a fully digital economy, if only to make life harder for thieves.

"If there were no cash, what would they do?" says Ulvaeus, 66."

Um, take his cellphone with all his financial information on it?

Yeah. You gotta love stupid people.

A solution in search of a problem, is what we call this.

Uh, the guy sorta has a point. If you rob someone and all they have is a credit card or a cell phone that's not all that useful. You know it's gonna be shut off within the hour.

ABBA

Nothing more needs to be said...

Credit and Debit cards should be impermeated with 'stable' gelegnite that, if used with the wrong 'code', blows up.

Sure, there'd be some casual damage, but hey, security is worth the inconvenience (as we now all know).

A lot can happen within an hour.

Someone stole the numbers to my debit card last year and made a fake one and started buying crap at a Wal-Mart in Arkansas. Bank of America, emailed, texted and called me right away and I froze my account within 20 minutes, but they were still able to steal like $500, which I got back but it was still a nuisance.

The guy from BoA said it happens pretty much non stop all day long, people use fake cards, buy a pack of gum and use the cash back feature to take out cash.

Not when the number gets sniffed out of the air over a wireless connection.

Or RFID read while in your pocket.

Or picked up from a slip.

Or...
