Here’s the basic outline of House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s 2013 budget in one sentence: Ryan’s budget funds trillions of dollars in tax cuts, defense spending and deficit reduction by cutting deeply into health-care programs and income supports for the poor.

It's been stated over and over, cutting alone will NOT help. I agree we need cuts, but we also need increased revenue to pay the outstanding debt.
The poor and the middle class have been bleed dry due specifically to republican policies. Your comment about Americans being well armed is spot on, but I believe for the wrong reasons.
When the 99% finally have had enough, then the poorly armed Americans will need to worry.

Tax Cuts - All for it.
Defense Spending - Against it.
Health-care programs - should be trimmed down, lots of useless programs
Income support for the poor - creating dependent automatons is never a good thing.

In related news, "Buffet Tax" on millionaires would raise a total of 31 billion over 11 years. "A drop in the bucket".

Get the budget balanced then you can raise taxes to cover the debt. There is no point to raising taxes while they are still spending like there is no next week.

In California our governor is proposing a millionaires tax but it starts at $250k and under his initiative the next highest rate 9.9 goes to those high earners making over $45k, soon the rest of the country will know such progression. Democrats in California won't be happy until we are the highest taxes state in every category.

It is really hard to raise a lot of revenue by taxing the top .01% because there are so few of them and because we tend to use marginal tax rates. The most obvious example is if you increase the marginal rates for income over $1 million you are not actually raising the tax rate on those making $1 million. In CT we have a "benefit recapture" provision which essentially phases out the marginal tax rate structure for those making over a certain amount.
It isn't that much per person but it adds up and tends to be more effective than marginal tax changes. In part because no one really knows what you are talking about when you say you have a plan to recapture the benefit of the marginal tax rate structure for those making over $500K. Follow that up with saying that they have to pay $2000 more if they make over $500K and they understand that impact and tend to be OK with it.

But instead of using the savings from social programs to pay off what he calls a “mountain of debt,†Ryan dishes out tax cuts; the federal debt would continue to grow, by $4 trillion, over his 10-year plan, and the federal budget would remain in deficit.
