On the Canary Islands there are plenty of people living in caves. They are nice and cool in the summer and better isolated in winter than regular houses. There's even a rather famous restaurant in such a cave complex. So dependant on climate in their respective region some of those 30 million chinese might be rather lucky.

I grew up poor in charleston sc, and I have spent a life making a home wherever I find myself. I have fond memories of a book I read as a kid about a man who left civilization to live near a pond. With years spent in Afghanistan, cave dwelling can be a great home. Are we supposed to feel bad for them? They seem happy.
