Why is 50 so feared?

I just can't figure out what it is about the age 50 that makes so many people freak out. I turn 50 next month and people have started teasing me about it and it doesn't bother me. I like my life, I have my family and friends, a job I enjoy to keep me busy. I can watch my kids and know we've done a good job and look forward to grandkids, what is there not to like?

I freaked out at 40. Now I'm nearing 50 and I feel great. I am just happy to be alive
There is something to be said about the simple pleasures in life like sleeping, taking a breath, eating a good meal, enjoying a sunny day and more. Life is great!
