Violent crime is often driven by socioeconomic status, but even if you distill that out, minorities still commit a disproportionate amount of the crime on a per capita basis.
If you don't like the above statistics, here's some from the FBI.

Murder statistics from 2010:
White on White murders - 2777
Black on Black murders - 2459
White on black murders - 218
Black on white murders - 447
It is important to note that Hispanics are included in the 'White' data. If you separate those out, you'll find that Hispanics commit crimes at significantly higher rate than Caucasian whites, but not as high as Blacks. Much of that is due to socio-economic issues as well.
