On a related note, they have the first 3 Fallout games (Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel) for sale for $6.79.

Never played them, but for that price I'm getting it. Even if they suck it's only half the price of a movie ticket or about the same as a value meal at most fast food restaurants (and will certainly last longer than either).

they're awesome games but you have to keep in mind the time in which they were made.

Gamespot rates Fallout 3 a 9.0 and Fallout New Vegas 8.5.

Sounds like they're both worth playing.

The only reason Fallout 3 would have a higher score is because it was developed by Bethesda and therefore gets a free pass. New Vegas is better in every conceivable way. I bet their argument is "more of the same," while they hand out 10s to each successive Call of Duty.

An 8.5 sounds right for New Vegas. Fallout 3 should be a 6.

So it is not necessary to play Fallout 3 before New Vegas? I was told it was best to do them in that order

The stories are not connected in any way that I could tell. New Vegas was developed by people who worked on Fallout 2 and as such feels much closer to a proper sequel than Fallout 3.

I guess it probably is better to play them in order, because if I had played New Vegas first I wouldn't have got more than an hour into Fallout 3 before quitting.
