The distinction is that it is a new power the politicians are about to get and they will use it to force us to buy things sold by their campaign contributors.

As opposed to the old power where they get to use our money to buy stuff for themselves.

It sounds like an improvement to be honest.

I don't think this thread went the way Paul was hoping.

Also, George Washington made every white male American buy a gun and ammo in 1792. So this doesn't seem to be a new power.

And it was unconstitutional then too.

So what?

Having even less freedom is an improvement?

Are you under the impression they're losing one power and it's being replaced with another?

Uh, you said it was a "new" power. In fact, congress has been forcing people to buy products since the very founding of the nation. Additionally, almost all the people involved were the same people who passed the constitution 3-4 years before. They obviously didn't think it was unconstitutional.

Contrary to your crying, Congress had been doing this for 250 years. And yet they've apparently only actually done it twice now. Your chicken little fear mongering may be overblown.

They have multiple powers to make us spend our money on stuff. I would take this over taxation. In fact you are still free to pay the tax but some how people think that is tyranny.

So lets look at your argument so far. You made a claim that this is new. Yuki shot that down.

You acted like this creates a new relationship of pork where companies will now profit from the laws Congress passes, failing to mention the hundreds of billions already spent on things like defense and Medicare and Medicaid.

Like I said before, you are upset over a semantic argument over the words used in the law. Change the word fee to tax and throw in some language concerning vouchers and you have the same thing, just with more bureaucratic BS. Basically you are arguing for more bureaucracy and government control. You are just too stupid to know it.

I think the law is unconstitutional also. Just because our government has done and continues to do retarded things on a daily basis doesn't make it okay to add even more retardacy to that retarded pot

Forcing people to buy auto insurance is one thing, since no one is forced to own a car. This law shouldn't be done at the federal level

It will be. Violating the Constitution is an old power. This will be something new.
