I met Marty Stuart once when I was stationed in N.C. He was doing a tour of tavern/dance halls, which is the closest thing that passed for a club in NC back in prehistoric days, and his band played there for the night. I thought it was a surprisingly small venue for as good as they were. They played for a couple hours and then drank with the customers for the rest of the night. Gals were coming up and asking him to sign their chest, at which point I decided to hang around and start enjoying his rockabilly stuff.
He stayed the whole night til closing time, when the remaining 40-50 of us bid him goodnight with praise and handshakes.
He was ultra cool and made me wish for that night at least that I was a hillbilly.
