IF you aren't handy enough to fix that leaking pipe (boggles my mind that you can't), then hire a plumber to do that pronto.

Then look for a home renovator to install your stuff. Get at least 2 quotes in writing.

Wow dont loan money to friends or have them do work for you. Consider loans to friends and families gifts and forgive them if they dont pay you back. With jobs its more complicated.

Dont put business between friendship. Remember that Sopranos episode in which one of his friends he grew up with as a degenerate gambler?

Looks like that opening was built for a sunken shower. Surprised you had a tub in there. Was it a fiberglass built in? If you dont plan on living there for more than 5 years or so id suggest going to a full built in unit so you wont have any tile work to worry about. Problem will be getting the until in there lol.

If you have money to spend, go with a tile or marble shower stall.

1) never let friends do work for you.

2) handymen are notriously unreliable.

We got a fiberglass surround and a matching tub from Home Depot. It came as a set. There was a jacuzzi in there before and the walls were tiled.

I had a dream. It was an incredible dream. When I awoke, I had a huge mess to clean up.

That sucks, i wonder why he wont return your calls? even if it's too say he's going to be late.

edit: Altnhough this is typical contractor labor. We had some guys do work at the froint of our house. They built a beautiful new structure and it looked awesome at the end. But they disappeared for 2 weeks - i think one of the guys was an alcoholic or something. They did good work but from what i've heard, it's typical with contractors. A lot of them have mental and money problems.

Im a business man, who had to choose to turn business away, in order to serve the clients I have with the time and attention they deserve and require. Certain jobs you cannot leave half completed. Yours is one. Imagine a doctor starting a surgery , getting a phone call and leaving you on the operating table until he finished another operation. You simply must speak up. If you dont he will continue to service those screaming the loudest for him to finish their job.

The lesson to be learned is to establish some time boundaries at the beginning. And the guy doing the job needs to turn people down.
