I think in the future you may see clients on the mobile side that let you manage your merchants/auction sales, or craft, that kind of thing. Actual in-world play would be difficult now with latency and bandwidth issues, not to mention the costs of data plans.

Ragnarok Online has already done this via Ragnarok Online mobile that is a game in and of itself and any money made can be transfered over to your iRO account proper.

Guild Wars 2 is already working on an upgraded version where it directly ties into the game as opposed to 2 seperate games working together. We don't know what the features will be but from what they said is there will be a mobile phone and browser "app" that allows players to connect in game and communicate with players and be active in the online world while being technically off-line.

The only example they used was going on a raid with your friends and aiding them. No one knows if this will just be the equivilant of a chat program or if it will be more indepth then that and if potential rewards can be achieved.

I've seen this for WoW. They didn't run a client on the phone, but streamed a video instead. I'm not exactly sure how they did it but they could move the cursor and move around just fine.

This of course didn't allow for advanced playing but they could at least check auction house and stuff like that.

New mobile devices have great support for OpenGL, soon multicore processors etc, in a year or two it should be possible to port the client to one. Or maybe more realistically run something like WmWare on the device and the windows client ontop of it

You'll be able to log on a raid with your friends and shout helpful stuff like "More dots! More dots! More dots!" and "THAT'S 50 DKP MINUS!"
