Topic of the Week |
With this week's "Topic of the Week", the Vault would like to know " Yesterday, October 10th Dark Age of Camelot celebrated its 9th year anniversary! 9 years already, can you believe it? Things have changed a lot since 2001! What are your favorites and least favorites memories of the game? What should have remained that was removed, and what should be added in the years to come? Do you believe it will hold another 9 years?"
Thank you for sharing!

ToA should have been removed (or at least its overpowering and unbalancing bonuses).
Old Frontiers should have been retained (or at least the map layout).
I hope they make a DAoC 2.

OF should never have been replaced, but either way (OF or NF) I think Mythic has neglected to improve the design of the frontiers.
I remember when I first played the New Frontiers (being a soloer). My adventures into enemy frontiers always ended up with me waiting at a dock. Did Mythic really want me to gank players while they were buying boat tickets?... To this day nothing has changed. At no point in time has Mythic tried to shape small scale RvR. All they do is add bonuses left and right.
I think the game has much potential for improvement still, but it matters little when no resources are available.

I think you’re going to get the same result from this question as you would any complaint about DAOC. TOA and NF.

I don't like all of OF better than NF, but one thing about it I wish they had left was porting to other realms. Boat rides are blah. Even in NF you get the most fun when realms have ports into enemy territory. How much better would it be if the ports were permanent?
I liked the less expensive active RAs from OF too. Spending 10 or 14 points on an active RA was about the right cost (ignoring the cost of pre-reqs such as augmented acuity 3 which you generally wanted anyway). The much higher cost to get a level 3 active RA in NF is a major reason people feel they can't compete with high RR players.
Also I wish they had left the dopplegangers in. Those actually worked pretty well at creating chances for small scale RvR.
Their additions in recent years have almost always been more gear grind, so I'd be just as happy if they didn't add anything.
Unless they make DAOC F2P, I can't see it lasting more than another year or two. There's nothing left to cluster with, so once Ywain's population starts plunging when the next big MMOs come out in 2011, DAOC is most likely done.

Meddyck what is your take on them adding DAOC areas in Warhammer that you can zone into for a sneak peak for about 20 seconds until you get portaled out? Do you think that it is them using Warhammer space to test DAOC for a future graphic enhancement or what? There has to be a reason they would do so much details to Camelot, Cotswald, a few SI areas etc… not just wasted space rotting there. Rackir, Snacks, and I were doing it back to back last night sprinting around and testing things. Why would they have done the work to do them areas if not for any planned graphic update?
