I had a legendary Alchemist in the past and made a nice living selling potions.I have leveled up another alchemist to the low 700's so far.I have put reasonably priced potions for 40 level and 30 level chars and my sales are.....disappointing at best.I cannot understand why this is so. Is this game sooo weak....the player population just doesn't use that many potions ?
Are other crafter's wondering why they invested the time to craft ?

I have trouble keeping potions on my consignment merchant. Perhaps you're charging enough more than what the market will support that people can find what they want cheaper elsewhere?

Nah, I'm making out just fine with income from my assorted crafts. I've got exactly two (2) crafters who have not recovered the initial investment (one is a fletcher, one is a siegecrafter - and both are toons I seldom log on, so that might be part of the reason they've not recovered their investment), everyone else has made enough to pay for a lavish lifestyle....

are you sure your merchant is currently listed? ... theres that siffy bug people can exploit to de-list your merchant...
second.. where is your house? .. ywain1 or 10 near the entrance is the prime potion selling locations for strong potions.. selling improved or lower lvl potions it doesn't really matter what house lot you have..
third... is your house open so people can enter/bind and port from it?... i used to check before i bought from someone .. if i couldn't enter the house to port.. i would buy the next cheapest instead
fourth.... do u have 1 or more potions accidently listed for plat instead of gold?.. i see even a single potion like that in someones cm.. i screw it and buy from someone else..

Level 20 pots can be a good business. I know that on hib, there's been multiple days where there weren't any heal/invig pots listed. Sometimes the only ones listed are 30g (they cost <4g to make), but those sell out quickly. Compare this to the 25 pages of regular heal pots, etc.
[edit] I've also seen this lack of supply on mid and alb

enter your house type /housefriend all
shift+right click in your house click the access tab pick vistor... set to enter and bind click ok
shift+right click in your house click the friends tab set housefriend all to vistor. (it may say everyone)
becareful you don't select anything that gives access to your cm or vaults.
edit: after you do that click your cm and type /listmerchant twice to ensure that your merchant is listed... check the explorer at the entrance to make dbl sure it is listed

By "port to your house", you're referring to allowing people to buy your stuff from your merchant? For that, mainly people buy items via the Market Explorer NPCs at the entrance, so they don't physically go to your house. Buying via these NPCs means there's a 20% fee, so they may still go to your house for higher priced items. For that, they'll typically buy a housing market teleport token for your housing zone and give it to a consignment merchant then run to your house (use /houseface <lot number> to find it.
Typically, random people won't bind to your house (described above), allowing them to teleport there. They'd more likely bind to their guild's house or their own.

I used to hate that as well, but today that's not a problem anymore. When you go to the ME there is the token merchant, and any CM will thus port you back to his zones central market. There you will find convenient teleporter NPCs, so the days of looking for an open house are over. Just always go and buy a return token when you head out to buy directly off someone's CM.
Making sure that you're listed on the ME, and your price are the only thing I can gather. There is a ton of competition out there though, so I can see how it's not all that rewarding. I think many people use automated scripts to make pots, because no one in their right mind would sit there and manually make pots and sell them at the prices they're selling for. (I'm talking about END3 pots for 10-12g and things like that. No way am I wasting my time making a pot for that kinda low return.)

In my experience, Molvik potions (Improved/Level 30 Haste/Shardskin/Replenishment/Invig/Mending) sell quite well at 10 gp ea.; single-buff pots at 5 gp ea., and double-buff pots at 10 gp ea. I suspect that Thid-level pots would sell well, but don't have enough room on my CM to sell both Molvik & Thid pots. Nereid potions sell well at 20gp ea, but the margins are very thin at that price; I only put them up as a public service.
On the other hand, Strong (level 40) potions move very slowly; I suspect most people at that level have bots and don't bother, or make their own. I find that the "healing" type potions (Healing/Power/Endurance) sell much more slowly than "regen" type potions (Invigoration/Replenishment/Invigoration). The market for those is also streaky; I'll have weeks where no one buys a power pot, then someone comes along one day and buys all of them.
Windwalkr, just because you have the patience of a gnat on caffeine doesn't mean the rest of us can't take the 3 minutes to whip up a batch of 20 pots and stock them on our CMs.
