Author Topic: Back after a while, should I play support? [Locked]

DAoC back in the day (around SI) is what really influenced me to play healer type characters in MMORPGs. However, I'm not so sure that is viable now, as I would be depending on the server population size to level. My original character was a bard, and I would love to play one, but they can't solo very well last time I checked.

I guess my question is this, are healers viable to level without being able to box, or should I just stick with a more solo-oriented character?

This can really be hit or miss, [colorurple]especially[/color] with a Bard.
Although everyone loves having support, the Bard is a crucial part of every Hibernian group. Meaning most people don't want randoms playing this class for them. You'll be able to start your own groups pretty readily however.

For the past few years I've always been on page that I will only play a toon that has some kind of solo ability. That way I don't have to wait for others to have fun if need be.

Support is still valid though; play what you want. Everything will work out... except for Maulers =o)

^^ QFT

If you don't feel like hassling with a bard (classes like the bard or healer can kill someones dreams of coming back as it can really drain you and take away the fun of playing) I would roll a Druid or a Warden. Both can solo and are wanted in groups.

If you can find a guild and get past the annoyances of leveling a bard, it will be worth it once you are ready for big boy RvR. Plus, getting groups as a bard are easy and you can start groups even easier.

If you aren't attached to Hibernia, a cleric might be a viable choice as well. You should be able to level pretty easily with smite, then you can simply respec into rej/enh when you're ready to get out and RvR.

Mid Healer is also pretty easy to level these days with the PvE weapon proc.. but they remain a hard class to play well.

However has no real ability to PvP solo, and please no one bring up the Healer who was solo, because 1 out of 500 does not mean there is solo ability.

healers are fun to play if you like listening to people crying you didn't heal them when they're running around out of range.

Gargles is his name... Lone Enforcer healer.

But indeed.. not the best class to solo on Maybe the OP should look into playing a Heretic.. you can use 1 spec for both group/solo play.. whereas with a cleric you need 2 distinct specs.
