Author Topic: Getting close to 50, where should I start? Mostly for gear. [Locked]

Leveled my Thane up to 30 via BGs and got decked out in Auralite armor. I have gotten to 40 via solo Taskmasters. I have made lots of gold and bought a new weapon that seemed good.

Now my question is this, when/where should I start lookin for better gear to rvr/pvp in? I hear talks of templates and I am not 100% sure what these are. I am really lookin as to what I should do via endgame. I am not big on raiding although I love small group content.

I am assuming if I must I can just do task all the way to 50. But where should I look for some better/best gear?

I would start farming scales in the zones where the dragon is. The scales are tradeable for some good gear. A template is essentially a pre-planned gear setup that will attempt to maximize your stats/reists/bonuses with certain items in them. If you look on the midgard melee boards, there are probably a bunch of thane templates floating around you can use. At 50, id suggest jumping in ml10 raids as much as possible (you need ML9) as the gear there is pretty good.

Do the repeatable quests till your eyes bleed at 40. Good money that way.

Then I would hop over to the appropriate class board and look at some of the temps, or ask for help making one.

You may have enough money to make a decent template once you hit 50. If you don't, I would start farming scales and glass. either to use, or to sell.

It cost me about 50p to make a pretty decent template on my BD. It isn't the best but it gets the job done imo

Templates are essentially a pre-planned set of gear. So a Bonedancer template is a set of armor pieces, mix matched, to bring out the full potential of your bonedancer. Lower cast speeds while increasing dmg and so forth.

If you know the term "twink", and not in the sexual sense , then templates "twink" out your character.

Niiice ok, I was thinking it sounded like twinking.
I will definatly try and farm these scales, seems like they are really popular atm.
I am having a surprisngly tough time finding a thane template. Typing Thane Template in search is not working very well for me, doh.

Also I searched for dragon scale locations for Midgard and looks like I should head to Malmohus?

Yup! Malm is where you wanna be. Go to the midgard melee boards here on the vns and filter through for thane templates there. Should be a bunch

Do the dragonsworn lvl 40 mobs in Skona ravine drop scales also? Looks like Zam is saying they do.

Dragonsworn mobs seem quite good to level off of.

1. They are a bit more advanced AI than regular mobs in that they have the class abilities so it's a little interesting I guess.

2. They drop scales.

3. They drop armor pieces which you can also sell for decent money.

thane temps in general are a little rough and they can be hard to come by. It will largely depend if you want to focus on casting or melee.

I would go back many pages on mid melee boards to find a cheap Thane temp. Almost any decent thane template made today will have ML10 gear which will be waaaay out of your price range.

Essentially, you'll want the cheapest template possible that allows you to have decent stats/resists and not be totally gimp.

I wouldn't worry about a proper template until you are level 50.

You should try to find a guild that will help you learn the ins and outs of templating, and the game in general. Also, they may help you farm gear and get items easier. It'll be a loooong road to a good template if you go it alone.

I agree that Dragon Scale stuff is probably your best bet atm, especially with some good spell pierce items dropping off Nosdoden. Even the BPs there are good.

Now, if you're going to run around and be a hardcore soloer, the ML10 stuff is where it's at, but honestly, for your day to day player - zerg, group, small man, some solo - a temp that maxes your stats and resists is going to be good enough.
