When you go to replace a popular and complex website with a new version there are a few rules that are generally followed. You seem to have missed them:
* Build the new site on a different server and ensure that all functionality of the old site is up and running on the new site as much as possible. Say 90% implemented and running properly. Test it thoroughly. Get feedback on the new design. Test it with a variety of browsers on a variety of platforms and OSes.
* Announce the new site and that the changeover will occur at a given time/date on the old site, with some warning.
* Redirect the domain name from the old server to the new server, so as it propagates through the various DNS servers, the new site version becomes available. Then proceed to debug what your QA staff didn't find, or you didn't have time to correct.

What you appear to have done is start building the new website, directing traffic to the new pages - which all read "Under Construction" (that is so 1995 its sad), and you have disabled 95% of the functionality. This looks COMPLETELY unprofessional. It looks amateur. It looks like whoever is building your website doesn't have the slightest frikkin idea what they are doing. Did you hire some kids from the local highschool to do the revamp? Are they working for pizza?

As it stands I would like to know how long it will be before your trained baboons have figured out how to reimplement Mapalot, which is why I went to the website in the first place. I want to find a lot to build a house on without having to manually ride around to do so. Guess I will have to wait on that, or go to plan B and call my mount.

Congratulations on discovering how to build an amateurish and broken website. I have built dozens of website since I started working on them in 1995 and I have to say this is far more broken than I would ever have put up as a live site even back then.

It's not available at the moment. For security reasons the old box was taken down ahead of time, before we had the chance to rebuild it on the new site. This might take several weeks (>6).

I'm not a VN Troll (just check my post count) but wow. Just wow. I'm amazed that a company with the vast resources of EA runs this shoddy of an operation. As an independent software consultant, I would be embarrassed to relate this information (6+ weeks?!) to any of my clients.

Do you guys realize how much the Herald is used for game information? (I personally discovered the problem when, trying to template, I found all the links to the Dragonsworn and Specialty armor information broken.) For an MMO that revolves around social interaction and RvR, frontier and guild information will be unavailable for weeks?

And frankly, this just looks bad. As a game looking to attract new players, you are putting a poor face forward. A game's website is the equivalent of a store front window. Instead of having the windows clean and the display well dressed, you basically have a half empty display with some boards tacked over it and a hole in the window. Might as well put up a sign that says "Going Out Of Business."

Get your act together. Seriously.

I actually liked the format of the old site. They just needed to fix the old data and broken links.
I say just put the old site up and work on the new one somewhere else.

I wish people would chill the F out and stop bitching at mythic so much...that being said, everything that was stated in this post was 100% correct And there really is no excuse for what happened here mythic.

what complete and utter garbage. total waste of a mouse click. everyone working on anything to do with dark age of camelot should start looking for new jobs now, because judging by the look of things the game is not long for this world, and the people they've assigned to this crapfest probably have one foot out the door already for one reason or another.

also, even though he hasn't had anything to do with DAoC in years, diaf mark jacobs. h8 4evr

Thinking about it, it seems far more likely that the old server died completely and they were unable to recover anything from it. They evidently didn't have a backup. Its the only reason I can think of why this would happen - anything else is simply beyond unprofessional. Mind you so is not having a backup

How do you search for characters and guilds now? How do you see the realm map of who owns what towers and keeps?

This news does indeed make me sad. This really shouldn't be so hard.
