This is how they can make that game worth playing:

Use the WAR engine and WAR graphics and whatever, and then redesign pretty much all of the classes to mimic DAOC.

I don't want to get into whats wrong with the PvP in WAR, I'm just going to say its plain and simply boring, and there isn't the same level of strategy as DAOC. DAOC as actually based on a very simple but solid rock-paper-scissors type system, and then complexities are added. You've got ranged casted heal, ranged casted DPS, and no-range non-interruptable melee attacking. I guess that's like the Rock Paper Scissors but there's one added component which fits all of these together, and obviously that is crowd control.

Here's what you have in WAR. Every single class can solo the same as all the other classes, and are complete characters and don't need any help from friends, and all of the CC-type spells are spread out evenly, and every class has it so there aren't scenario's in which they are totally useless or totally OP'd (ie. a caster being interrupted vs. a caster freecasting). I just don't see how you can base a game on this.

I also see a problem with 6v6v6 because no realm is going to want to start the fight they will just get hit by the other realm. Sure 3 realms is a great idea, but perhaps it needs to be a little more open field type of stuff, where its Mid vs Hib vs Alb but not always exactly 1 group of each in the same area.

On the other hand i'm very surprised to see this. I guess with all the years work they put into that game for it to fail, you'd think they have to do something with it. If the game as a whole fails, then try to redesign a simple part of it and re-release it on its own. Honestly I think its a great idea even if it doesn't go very far, it must have been 100 times easier to modify an existing game than to create an entire new one from scratch.

This reminded me of one thing, I was actually impressed with a ton of things that were in WAR, but what it all boiled down to was 2 things. Number one was bugs, ok but these could be fixed they shouldn't be game breaking. The major problem was how the characters were designed, so that there is no rock papaer scissors, there is no being super powerful in some situations but useless in others, and thereby relying on other groupmates, and the characters were simply not fun to play. I think the game was too geared towards someone being able to play any class they wanted and be very reasonable at doing everything in the game, especially solo. Yes this is nice in a lot of ways, they wanted it to be fun and convenient for everyone, but in the end it ruined RvR.
