A foundering population, stuck in love (understandably so) with a failed enterprise. The developers don't care for their subscribers - Hell, I literally DO think it would be fair to half the subscription price right about now.

Newbie friendly? No - and I only say this because DAoC has metric crapton of classes and each of those classes have multiple choices in how you want to spec them.

So right off the bat you can see DAoC has an "embarrassment of riches" in the multiple choice department which can be a bit overwhelming.

Other than that, yes DAoC is newbie friendly if you compare it the wide range of other MMOs out there.

I would suggest you signup for the free trial first and get about 15 - 20 levels under your belt. This will give you time to meet some people, line up a guild, and kick the tires. Then you can decide on your next move.

Something many of my illustrious co-forum-monkeys fail to remember is that playing DAoC RvR for the first time is an experience unlike any other. Most MMOs are PvE-centric with a smattering of PvP stuff thrown in for those "weird PvP players." DAoC is the first (and best) MMO that tricked PvP-adverse players into enjoying RvR.

Sure, after you play a year or two there age going to be some things about the game that drive you nutz. When you get to that point you can come here and bitch and moan like the rest of us.

But regardless of the state of the game, regardless of our pet peeves, I would NEVER EVER suggest that someone not try DAoC out. We DO have a tutorial zone! It does work!! We DO have low-level RVR zones! There ARE people to fight and befriend! We DO have newbie armor quests! Lurikeens WILL give out free hand-jobs if you ask!

My suggestion is try it and see if it is for you. Alot of the people putting the game down in this thread probaby haven't played in years and are just negative people in general. If you don't play the game the way they believe it should be played then it is a bad game and you are a noob.


If you love PVE, then it is average at best for that and much better games for that. It is unique for the 3 realm RvR which those that still play love and many others love and have searched for in other games but never found it so have come back and played or just stay on the VN boards to complain as you can see.


Find a class that you would think you enjoy playing and fits how you want to play. If you want to solo then only a few classes that can do that effectively, it you want to 8man then want to pick a class that is effective in 8 man or small groups and if you want to zerg then play the class you want since it is a zerg. And FYI the majority of peeps playing do enjoy the zerg warfare and this has always been the case. The solos/8mans have always been in the minority but they are the biggest complainers on the VN boards. So take anything said on here with that in mind. The majority of people actually playing right now don't get on the VN boards. Most on here are former players who can't seem to leave the boards so they just bitch about the game.

I have been playing this game off and on for nine years. Sometimes I take a break for a few years. The breaks are usually because RL makes time demands that do not fit in with playing a MMO. I also like EVE online. EVE and DAOC have the best PVP of any MMO I have tried.

Newb friendly? Yes, if you like to learn as you play. NO, if you want to just play.

wow lots of stuff in this thread that i'm not gonna read. but all I'm gonna say is this:

Daoc is VERY NOOB-FRIENDLY If only you can convince the noobs that THEY NEED TO RUN A BOT. Then a noob can do something. I feel truly sorry for the noobs who are going out there and trying to fit themselves into a template when they have no guild, and they are on a solo toon without buffs. You need a bot to do some sort of PvE farming,and then pretty much any noob in the world can at least get a little cash together and eventually get enough items to get their first half decent template and then do the rest of what they need to do.
