Hey all, couldn't find my old VN account...
I used to play this game since old frontier times and re-sub'd maybe a month ago..

Which genius changed the Leirvik map??? I got in there and was shocked there was no albs...or anyone for that matter....then it dawned on me as I crossed the huge bridge from the pk that I used to take a boat across that water.

I roamed around solo for a good hour and only found 1 mid hunter....and nearly puked in my mouth a little from all the changes...

What happened to this BG???? I randomly do a /who leirvik and there simply is no one in there!! clearly the map is HORRIBLE...but what made them do it and why haven't they changed it back??

Is the 45-49 BG any good? I don't think it existed at the time of my departure.

Yes. IMO it's the best of the BG's.

Thidranki and Molvik are the only BG's most ppl play in, the others are used used to levelup in /bow

That would be Mythic.


I too remember Leirvik being a thriving BG. I recall when there would be huge numbers from all three realms fighting. Even at 3 am I could go to the old Leirvik and find many groups from the different realms fighting.


But then Mythic got a hair up their rear end and they changed the map a bit. After the first map change players continued to use the BG so Mythic decided to change the map a second time and more radically this time. After the second map change the BG mostly died. After the BG died Mythic must have been satisfied with a dead BG because they did not change the map back. Killing the BG must have been their plan, that or they just have no clue what they are doing or why.



Your account should still exist and all your old characters should be on the Archived servers. If you can’t activate your old account you may need to contact Mythic to find out what happened


Ywain info:

Server population was dieing and to help keep server population up Mythic was clustering servers together. As the player population continued to shrink, Mythic needed to continue clustering servers but they had a huge problem, the database of old characters was becoming so huge (on the existing clusters) the database was becoming unmanageable. Because the existing databases were so huge, Mythic could no longer combine the databases, which meant they could not form a new cluster (yet they needed to cluster the final servers together to keep the population up to keep RvR viable).


Mythic’s solution, create a new server that everyone, all active players, will transfer to (everyone transfers except Mordred and the Coop). There are 10 Ywain login servers that are just character holding areas. The 10 login servers allow players to transfer up to 100 old characters to the new server, but Ywain 1-10 is only one server.


The old servers will be maintained as character holding areas for returning players; so returning players can come back and transfer toons over to Ywain.


If you have level 50s on the old Classic server, there is a quest that gives free ML credit before you are allowed to transfer.


Mostly it does not matter which Ywain you use, as all Ywains are really just one server, but housing on Ywain 1-3 is very full so if you are thinking of getting a house I would use a different Ywain than 1-3.

sorry but i dont think the map change has much to do with why there is no one in there.

I like both the new Leirvik, and the old one as well.

You may like the new map but based on the population numbers, not enough players seem to like that map.


I like DAoC but that does not bring millions to the game. Based on population numbers something is wrong with the game. That same evaluation can be used for parts of the game.


A few people liking something does not mean it is in overall good shape. It is the general population that tends to reveal the truth of the games health and/or of the strength of the design of a BG.


I stumbled onto Leirvik one day and found that when I often played, 3am, there were 20 to 30 people there almost every night/morning. In prime time there were two to three groups from each realm fighting over towers and the CK, with stealthers picking off returning players and often an 8 man from each realm running from PK to PK to PK (50 to 70 almost every prime time).


The population did ebb and rise a bit but mostly it was steady. Many, many players that I grouped with had characters stopped in Leirvik. I had 4 different toons stopped there. For more than 5 or 6 months I often played there (about 60% of my game time was spent in Leirvik). After the second map change it did not take a week (it only took a few days) to go from vibrant to dead.


It may not have been the map change but it sure looks like it was the map change. An exception to a rule (a few people who like the new map) doesn’t invalidate the truth of a general trend.

well by that logic, clearly no ones likes any of the BG maps except for Molvik and Thidranki. But there are other reasons why people play those BG's and not other ones. Thidranki was always popular because it used to be the first BG people would go to, and then when /level was introduced, it became popular for obvious reasons. I guess the reason people play Molvik is because its high enough level for characters to develop a little bit towards what they actually play like at level 50, but low enough level that you don't get much ToA effects on the game. I don't think that they could change the Leirvik map to be perfect enough so that everyone would leave Molvik and level to 44 instead.

I did stop in Molvik for a while and had a great time. I was pumped to get into Leirvik as well because i liked it to, but i guess I can give the last BG a go. Was hoping for a good exp stoppage at 44 for some more bps and rps so i can get a couple artifacts and level them before 50. Spent all my bps on Bracer of Zo.

to be honest I'm surprised to be back and still having as much fun as I did 4 or 5 years ago.
