TropicanaJones is correct (as are others). This is not a Realm Pride issue. It is an A$$ Hat issue.
I am not taking the position that WoW is perfect or that WoW is a better game. IMO WoW is not a better game, WoW just has better implementation.
This thread is a good example of WoWs better implementation. In WoW if you join a group and the group leader specifies the loot rules, if the group leader does not follow the stated loot rules the group leader can be appealed and Blizzard will actually take action against the group leader. Of course if the loot rules that were stated were ambiguous, then Blizzard can’t really enforce anything.
I do not want DAoC to turn into WoW but there are many customer friendly features at WoW that Bioware could learn a bit from. Any time a game is designed where a player can, without consequences, rip off other players . . .many players will drift to the dark side. Most players will not rip off others but it only takes 10% or 20% that are A$$ Hats to ruin the game for most others.
It is sad that Mythic (and now the sickness has infected Bioware) has always had difficulty understanding the damage that anarchy does to the game.

In the past behaviour like this would get you kicked from a guild. If it didn't get you kicked from your guild (because you ran it or they were all d*** too), then it would get the guild kicked from its alliance. Players who abused other players like this would find their characters shunned by the rest of the realm etc. Entire guilds would discover that no one would group with them etc. There was lots of Drama of course and it was all a waste of time but at least the complete d***wads were dealt with after a fashion.
Now no one cares. Its everyone for themselves. There is no way to instill Realm Pride again. Its gone and so are the players who made it possible. Now Mythic has done its level best to ruin it over time of course, but the real problem is just a change in the attitude of the playerbase over time.
When you had to pick 1 realm out of the 3 on a given server, that helped with community and pride. The moment that changed, it was gone IMHO.
I am enjoying playing the game these days because I like the way the game plays, its still fun. However there is no where near the community we had back at release. None whatsoever.
As for the game mechanics, there should be an interface for establishing the loot rules and the system itself should enforce them. Once set the raid members should have to agree to them, or be kicked from the raid and then they should not be changeable. You can't rely on the honour of players, because most of them have no honour at all.
Of course I don't do any raids. I can't stand most of the current crop of players long enough to consider it. Maybe some of this already exists

it was gone long before that.
Player attitudes started shifting to the ME ME ME, instead of the REALM... before SI was released...
and the problem just continued to get worse.

Lol "come@me" while I hide behind a nameless singnature and countless toon names. Hahaha.
This is the face of daoc's realm mates right now. And the current system promotes this attitude.

Well I have long maintained that Realm Points and Realm Abilities were a mistake. They looked like a great idea, and they certainly engaged players and gave them a goal, but it changed RvR from "Lets beat the enemy" and "The enemy is at X place" to "Hey group, lets kill these guys as fast as possible before someone else gets the RPEEZ" and "Shh don't tell anyone so we can get the RPEEZ". In other words from a situation where you fought the enemy because they were the enemy (typical for say any FPS game and tons of other games players already play) to only viewing a fight where you personally gained something as valid. This has led to the terms "@ssjam" and "Zerg" being epithets. They used to mean "Help from a realm mate" and "Our Army"
Now with the ability to swap realms in a few mins, no one hates the enemy for being the enemy because they might be part of the same realm 5 mins from now, if that side is winning. No one sticks around for a desperate defense of a keep, why not switch to the other side and be a victor instead? Its like having a police force that will only help citizens they can also loot for cash and valuables.
The worst thing is that the only way to maintain a sense of Realm Pride and community is for the playerbase to build up a culture of it, and since that playerbase left years ago and the remainder are not enough to instill it, its not going to come back period I think.

My fiancé just brought up a great point/idea:
An in game Raid Rep system? Like the 2 hour raid you just finished? + rep me please.
Raid starting in 20 minutes, led by XXXXX. 150 positive rep!
Didn't like the raid? Misled? Horrible experience? - rep
OFC there would need to be rep rules like: to be eligible a BG must be formed and an epic encounter must be accomplished. Only BG participants can participate. If you start a BG, your rep is visible to all that /who BG.
just about every major online product site (amazon, eBay, nextag) uses some sort of system to help users evaluate otherwise anonymous outlets/retailers/sellers.
Probably easier to code then anything else at this point. Just a thought. Not getting my hopes up tho

10 ywains, 10 characters per server
100 total characters..... a person could easily increase there own rep by voting for themselves over and over again...
