What is your perspective based on an 8v8 and/or smallman situation? (I don't care about soloing)

I already have a Luri Hero, who's about rr4. So obviously I don't have any real experience playing heavy tanks, but I really do like the idea. Perhaps the thing that turns me off is that NF is becoming more dominated by caster setups, and heavy tanks are often the lone tank in a group playing only peel/bodyguard duty, which although important it doesn't seem that appealing to me. I don't speak from an elite 8 man perspective with a fixed group setup, but from the perspective of finding a group from the alliance, which could be composed of just about anything, and hence usually dominated by casters.

Also I plan to get the tank to RR5 through Cathal Valley, because i've really enjoyed CV lately, though the RvR is very bad quality at times, it's just so much easier to find a group and then to find some action.

I don't know too many setups that run heavy tanks these days. Personally, I've always enjoyed all three heavy tanks. However, warrior was what I most enjoyed followed by hero. It all really depends on what realm you want to play. I think heavy tanks are more useful in small mans than 8v8 though.

I enjoyed warrior most past rr6 or 7.

Earlier I think the armsman was a bit easier.

Plus snap shot was fun.

Warriors: Boring spec, same styles, simple templates (no thrust) fun RR5

Hero's: Squishy as sh*t (weak to slash and i mean WEAK), moose is awsome, all the specs are fun, lighting spear and the most important LURIKEENS!!! decentish RR5

Arms: Their armor feels god mode, fun specs, polearm anytime is dumb (penetrates every other swing), the best RR5 out of them all seeing as there is no penalty (if you do it right )

this!

fulltanks are next to useless in 8vs8, but there is no competition left in that part of the game anyway.

in smallmen/solo, all 3 of them are viable.

I played in 8man groups as a BG with a warden, a warrior, a hero, and while the warrior is indeed somewhat "dull" compared to either, i definitely had the most fun with that class.

You don't have a wide palette of actions, bad weaponline choices, but what you do, you do very well, better than a hero would: so many benefits to melee in a mid group(healer celerity, skald celerity+DA, 10.0DPS DA, valk DD proc...), truly a pleasure to play.

The issue being, as Thak0r said, that you don't need defensive tanks much in today's game, since frontline melee is no longer a true threat to cloth casters(too many debuffs, shears, healing capability, anti-melee timers etc...) and having more casters allows for better enemy pet management, with only a few exceptions (melee groups, vendo zerker). So i would advise against starting to play any BG character if you actually aim for 8man, on any realm.

I honestly think all three are very strong classes.

Warrior is probably the easiest of the three, you get 50 in a single weapon and can go between 2H and 1H for great damage, you get a ton of parry and block.
Hero is most likely the most dangerous at high RRs, just due to the built-in IP and Tactics for free.
Armsman is strong as hell, and the only of the three that can deal with kiting (An Xbow with +Xbow and Dex + a proc, you can actually do really good damage snap shooting people). Polearm might be the best melee line in the game, and the damage done with that thing is over-the-top.

Mind you this is coming from someone who plays casters mostly, and Heavy tanks in close range is like the bane of my existence.
