In the starter zone...

You find the chief guy and it's a level.
You find your trainer that's a level.
You kill 3 wolves and named wolf and that's about 2 more levels.
You kill like 6 invaders, 5 officers, 2-3 commanders.. and by then you are level 7ish.
You go kill invaders, officers and commanders by the tower and you will get another level or so.
You kill the 12 invaders at the keep and you will be like 9-10.

It's obvious that the < 10 battlegrounds were not intended for many people to use, rather that they were there for completeness.

After 10 you have a series of town quests that are very linear and very easy to do solo all the way up to about lvl 35.

Or you can go to the battlegrounds which are also quite linear but you at least have a substantial variation on how fast it will go based on if you are grouped, and if you run into PvP.

This guy didn't spend 2 hours he spent 15 minutes. I feel for his complaints about the interface. I recognize that those areas are boring largely because there are no "new" players and that all the community content happens at higher levels.. but cmon he didn't even make it to thid. That's a joke.

He tried multiple times to go to the portal keeps and doesn't understand why he died so quickly.

He thinks it's actually an option to run out into real RVR and get anything accomplished. I'm sure if he were to actually do this, he'd bitch about how hard the game is for new players because he got 1 shot 5 separate times and couldn't find a group.

Guy's a joke.

Edit: I realize as a player that's played since launch, I look at the game differently, but for crying out loud the very first time I got nuked for sniffing too close to a PK I learned my lesson. I didn't go back again and groan that I couldn't live for 10 seconds.

His recount of his week sort of bums me out. I think this would be a tough game to be "new" to at this point in time. I had so many great people help and teach me things about this game when I started that I don't think I would've made it long otherwise, honestly.

What is bothering me about his articles/gaming experience with DAoC is that is should be social. He should be playing with others in a small group or group. He shouldn't have to be googling a ton of stuff that so many folks around could easily explain or help with. While I understand there are a ton of folks who prefer the solo side of this game, it is meant to be played socially (especially on the class he is playing).

But I don't want to register at the sight to urge him to reach out ingame instead of outside the game. Sigh.

Then these can also jump over and hit a BG or oceanus.

The obvious answer is that he plays at 2am for half an hour a week. One suicide run at a PK and one at the CK, that's half his playtime right there.
