there will undoubtedly be some throwback references, but i'm sure that if you're a person that's going to laugh at this movie, you'll laugh at it regardless

Just go rent the first one before you see the second. A little bit of background on some carryover jokes will only help, and the first movie was pretty funny!

You would get more benefit from seeing the first. If you haven't, I don't think it will make THAT big a deal. But since there's still time, go rent the first and see it. It will help more than harm.

I did not see the first because i thought it would be stupid i did not want to see this one for the same reason. One of my friends asked me to go so i did and thought it was a very good movie. The cast seemed to get along very well.

It was pretty funny but not as good as the first. Relied on shock a little too much this time.
Also it really bugged me that nobody was concerned at all at the end that the 16 year old genius prodigy future surgeon and cellist lost a finger. He can't do either of the things he's brilliant at anymore and nobody gets upset at all? Yeah right.
