Ugh, don't tell me that, been thinkin of pickin up a 4th gen touch or iphone.

I think Siri is the only feature you'll miss on a non-4s - the 3GS and vanilla 4 can run IOS 5.

There will likely be other features that don't work on a non-4s [particularly the 3gs] as there are currently features of ios 4 that work on a 4, and not a 3gs (or 3g? I don't remember for sure and I'm not looking it up).

It's important to note that this should *still* be avoided for phones as the phone is technically functional [edit: fully functional after a tethered boot, semi-functional after a non-tethered reboot], a lot of features will not work until you can tethered-reboot at a computer (important features too, like mail, calendar, etc).

Yeah as I was reading that it seemed more like a non-tethered semi-boot than a semi-tethered boot.

I think the fact that after an unexpected crash-reboot (or full power drain) that you still have a working phone that can make/receive calls and do text messages is pretty effing sweet though - that's a lot better than it turning into a useless brick until you can get back to a computer with redsn0w, and it's particularly great as an option now with no clues as to when/if an untethered jailbreak exploit will be found and released. I think Comex historically has been one of the key sources of finding those, and he's now an intern at Apple.

Also I didn't see calendar excluded from what you can use, and that's a stock app. Yeah mail is out and normal mobile safari is too, but it sounds like if you have a secondary app-store web browser you can surf the web, and for me that would be enough for email as using gmail is infinitely more awesome via its Safari interface on my iPhone 4 than with the native mail app.

You're definitely right about comex, and that does sucks.

Maybe I got calendar and safari confused on which apps do[n't] work. Either way, it's enough to keep me away until someone finds a way to get a full untethered jb [and you know someone will]. So long as it comes out before the next iphone [and ofc, it gets released for *that* phone], I'll be happy ;p

What have you chosen as the name she calls you? Personally I think "Dumbass" would be a lot of fun.
