All Points Bulletin used to be a pay-to-play game but now it's APB:Reloaded which is free-to-play but if you want to spend money you can buy overpowered weapons and equipment that allow you to wtfpwn noobs like me without any effort.
you can play as either a criminal or an enforcer. criminals can level up through open-world crime or by engaging in missions. enforcers can oppose the criminals in the missions or try to catch them in the act of committing the open-world crimes.
very customizable characters and clothes and cars, with better cars and interesting outfits and better equipment available as you level up.
the chat system allows you to accuse everybody else of hacking and complain constantly about lag and blame the game for making you lose and laugh at noobs and insult people and brag about your own leet skillz and sell stuff. there is a market system that allows players to buy and sell customized clothes and cars and whatnot.
the thing that drew me to the game was the driving. Everybody has their own car or you can steal a variety of vehicles from the npc's and drive them around like maniacs and blow them up and kill pedestrians and even use the vehicles as weapons during combat. The constant, terrible lag makes them steer like sinking boats, though. it's fun to take your noob hatchback up stairs and down back alleys and through shopping malls, or steal a dumptruck and grief the other players by smashing their cars and stuff.
there's also an in-game music player so whenever you're in a car you can blast a variety of playlists or upload your own tunes. It even has an "off" button.
I dunno... maybe I'll give this game another try. It's got a lot of cool features. I suppose any time I get fed up with all of the hyperactive kids running around like maniacs I can just go to the social district and draw cartoon penises on t-shirts.
