I may just grab me a *p* and meet ya there sometime Tof
fav food .. can't really say I have one.. it's more the atmosphere
there's nothing better than marinated baby backribs on the bbq, the salads, etc .. but to bring the feast to perfection add some good friends, a deck of cards, outside patio deck, some wine and a cold case of beer.
or the banana bread still baking in the oven that the girls can smell the minute they come home from school and my youngest driving me nuts for some.
or simply a night out for 2 at some seafood restaurant where the food is good and you share it with the other person and there's that moment of an intimacy of sorts.
where did my love of cooking/food come from ? .. blame my grandparents and my parents .. with my grandparents my gramma made traditional polish dishes just because my grampa loved em (we s kids weren't all that fussy on some of em) ... holidays weren't a day but a week's worth of cooking and baking and people coming over and the laughing and chatting and the hugs .. and it was loud ! wonderfully wonderfully loud ! .. it was also really personal times between my gramma and I when it was just us in the kitchen, she teaching me and we would talk .. about just about everything but importantly (to me anyway) about my family history and the stories .. my dad loved mince meat tarts and I loved my butter tarts, he had this habit of waking up thru the night to sneak one.. I developed the same habit .. we had some pretty good conversations over mince meat and butter tarts at 3 am on a few occasions
my parents entertained a lot .. mostly it was business related so the real social aspect of entertaining remained a pretty constant .. and of course the meals were more elaborate than what you'd get at gramma's.
oddly enough I judge (to some degree) people by the way they are with food.. the father or mother who chastises a child because they have lifted a bit of food off their plate gets labelled as selfish and possessive .. those who are willing to *try anything once* tend to be open minded and usually good natured, etc etc etc .. dumb yeah I know.
