He was here yesterday, so I am hopeful that he might check in again today. A lot of the people left on the signup list are only semi-regulars or people who have already had a previous Focus On thread.

Can't do that. You have to have permission to focus on someone. Just ask Riko. After getting **** for some of the Focus On threads, that little rule became implemented.
