INC GIANT WALL OF TEXT (cliff notes at the bottom for the attention defecit)
I am the oldest of eight kids…which has its pros and cons, but I always liked being the oldest. I would say that it never meant I got hand-me-downs, but we usually shopped for clothes at the thrift stores, so…yeah lol. I was born nearly 30 years ago on an Air Force Base in California that no longer exists. Both my parents were enlisted in the Air Force at the time, got out around the same time, and went to Utah for my mother to finish college. After that my mother was commissioned in the Army, and we moved to Georgia, then Washington, and then my parents divorced. I was about 6 or 7 at the time. As far as divorces go, it was incredibly amicable. They didn’t hate each other…they just couldn’t live together! They are so different that I’ve joked that I can’t imagine them ever going on a second date, much less getting married and having three kids hehe.
My mom got stationed in Korea, and we got to go and visit her for about a week, which was some fun stuff. I remember going to the outdoor market in Seoul…toys, clothes, and everything else you could imagine was there, and even I realized that it was CHEAP compared to what you’d pay in the states! I also remember walking past a cart where a man was butchering a dog…I think it was a Great Dane. Its head was in a wastebasket- that's how fresh it was. I wasn’t disgusted or freaked…in fact I found it quite fascinating but I think my mother just hustled us past as quickly as possible…probably because if my little brother had noticed it he *would* have freaked!
When I was 10 my dad remarried, which I and my siblings were excited about. We call my stepmother “Mom†and I tell people I have two mothers. My mom and stepmom get along and I love them both. Anyways…we moved around a bit in Washington then my dad got transferred to Dallas Texas.
Texas…ahhh the bane of my existence. Hot, humid, flat, brown, and dull…especially when compared to lush, green, cool, rainy, or snowy. I still have not managed to get acclimated. I hate the heat. Give me snow any day!
I went through middle school and high school as a mostly tomboy…not popular but not invisible. Just kinda hung out and did my own thing, mostly.
My mother had managed to get herself stationed in Fort Hood Tx which was about three hours from us, and about half of our weekends were spent driving to or from there. Still to this day, a drive of three or four hours is nothing and I don’t understand the people who complain about it and think it’s a “long tripâ€. During the spring of my senior year, I met my future husband, who was also stationed in Ft. Hood. He was everything my father feared…an enlisted army man, two tattoos on his arm, rode a crotch rocket, had a shaved head…yeah my dad wasn’t too happy about it but what can ya do? Got married about a year and a half after I graduated. We got out of the Army 3 months later when his term of enlistment was up, went to Utah to go to the U. of Utah in Salt Lake…and discovered I was pregnant. Hoo boy…so much for protection! Decided to re-enlist in the Army, spent a year in Monterey, where my first daughter was born, then went to Germany, which was one of the neatest places I've ever lived. We took a late honeymoon to the south of France, near Nice (wow, just gorgeous) and then got out of the Army.
Soon as we got back, I got pregnant with my second and started college…six years after graduating HS. Hubby spent some time going to college as well and then landed a contracting job that took him to Iraq. He was the computer networking guy, worked with a satellite guy, and raked in some exceptionally nice pay, but it really sucked having him gone. Unless something broke over there, he didn’t have much to do, so he started playing DAOC to fill the time. I started playing as well, since it was something fun we could do together (no we never cybored!) I was introduced to VN not too long afterwards. Husband came back for about a month’s vacation…and child #3 was conceived. And then he got a job offer in…Texas again!! Auuggghhh. But hey we’re both working on finishing our degrees, and for a non degree holder it pays VERY well. We’re not complaining! Much
So I’m here in Texas! I know I’m not too far from rage_ii, and there are a few others in the area as well that I can’t remember offhand. Eventually I’ll meet some of them irl.
Miscellaneous other tidbits:
When I was a little girl I was a tomboy…and my guy friends and I found a dead rat with a hole in its neck. We stuck a stick in its neck, made it bounce around, and “Ralph the Dancing Rat†was born!
I’ve written stories since I was a kid and I dream of being published one day (sci/fi fantasy, most likely). Once my dad said he was going to get one of my stories bound (I was like seven) and I was thrilled because I thought I was going to get it published…and crushed when I realized that wasn’t what was happening.
I love to sew, and am saving for a fancy-schmancy sewing/embroidery machine.
I’m a tad overweight from having 3 kids and not exercising like I should have, but the weight is dropping since I started exercising again, and I’m working towards running a 5k or a 10k at the end of this year. Go me!
There’s a bunch more that I’d like to write but I think I’ve rambled enough

My life has been pretty average I guess...not super interesting.
Ask if you have questions!
