Never seen this error before. Uninstalled, deleted folder, uninstalled all pluggins, deleted folders, used CleanDecalReg.exe, installed alpha 6, when I opened by clicking on icon in taskbar, recieved "One or more of your XML files were not found! Please click the Update button to ensure that Decal works correctly!" message. I've gotten that part before... what follows is the part I've never seen before. When I click Update the following messages appear (when I typed "clicked ok" is where I clicked the button and a new pop-up error box appeared)

First box:

Download failed

Interface not registered

clicked ok,

Second box:

Could not obtain updatelist.xml. Cannot update - Hosting server down?

clicked ok,

Third box:

Decal component update failed!

I started by re-downloading, after going thru the whole process 5 times, I decided to get drastic... I went into regedit and deleted EVERY instance of every key that had "decal" in it. (even folder keys!)

The only thing I have not done is a complete wipe of hard drive and re-install of windows. I have two computers on a shared DSL line (using hub) Second computer upgraded to alpha 6 with no problems at all (I even used an old version of el tank for my buffbot when I first upgraded to alpha 6 and it worked on the second computer)

Running winXP pro sp2 .net2 and full updates

go to the decal forums and post your computer info and decal export, the more people we can get reporting this the faster they can fix it

Goto your decal folder and delete ANY XML files in there.

Close denagent and relaunch it.

You'll then be able to do the updates ONCE.

I've reported this bug already in the Alpha forums, but the Devs say nothing has changed in the updater.

As others are also seeing it with this version I'm guessing something has changed and not been logged or theres some other addition/change thats affecting it.

Thanks I had the same problem...and it looks like after it updates it adds an extra network filter that wasn't there before its labeled ACDC Core Filter version #7.2.2.0

odd but at least its up and working now.

the ACDC Core Filter wasn't added by Decal.

also.. based on that Export, the export shows that ALL of the core XML files for Decal are missing. That might cause some issues.

this happens to me as well

Population Filter seems to be the culprit. I have to uninstall it, update Decal, and reinstall.

That is the main issue Drakier, decal refuses to connect to the server and does not download ANY XML files at all. Now, if the XML files are supposed to install when you install decal, then maybe something in the install code has changed that some computer systems/setups will not allow the installation of those files for some reason or anougher. I dont really beleive that though because I've installed all alphas from 3 till now with no problem.... so something MUST have changed somewhere. And unless something changed in the background, then it wasnt on my end, of course with all the MS stuff that goes on in the background, I cant really say for sure.... I just know that I have changed nothing on my computer myself sinse last install of decal.

I'm at the office right now, so I can not try the suggestion above yet, but I'll try that as soon as I get home.

EDIT: forgot to log off my bosses name and log into mine... Alltu_Tru

After you install, you're supposed to be able to click Update and get the XML files.

If you're having trouble getting the update files, check your Firewalls and other security software to ensure that Decal DenAgent has access to the Internet so that it is able to make the connection.

We know that the server isn't down, and we know that other people CAN get updates... so if for some reason you cannot get updates, chances are, it is something within your computer that is not allowing the update to take place.

Likely candidates are Firewalls and Download Managers.

Strange thing is drakier, I have updated decal before, and I have changed NO settings in firewall (which is turned off anyways, dont like MS firewall) and did not use a download manager....
