Only if you failed logic would you come to that conclusion.

I dunno.. if I used this, it'd be a utility that assisted me in playing AC. I'd just switch over to my other computer, type in what I was searching for.. thus saving me 3 clicks to get to the working search page on her site.

"Utility" From Dictionary.com:

1) The quality or condition of being useful.

2) A useful article or device.

4) (computer science) a program designed for general support of the processes of a computer;

An "AC Utility" would, by these definitions, be any program or device that was generally useful to the playing of Asheron's call or the computer processes involved. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assert that:

A) a large number of people who play AC do online searches to find answers to questions they have about the game and

B) a browser extension which allows quicker search access by Firefox users of the single most popular AC information site would be quite "useful".

C) the linked Firefox browser extension qualifies as a very handy "AC Utility" indeed.

I've installed and used it, and found it quite lovely. Thanks to Rizgar and the original poster of the other thread, Crilen007.

I would have to agree and say this is an AC utility just as much as any other non-decal run on your desktop AC utility. Like the above said. If it is useful at all and is related to AC then it's an AC utility. Useful of course is subjective, but you can't question its relativity to AC.

I don't think we need to lower oursleves to calling people names or questioning their intellegence.

Try this definition (from Webster's):

"a program or routine designed to perform or facilitate especially routine operations (as copying files or editing text) on a computer"

That sounds like the area of AC Utilities to me, and only by the boardest stretch of the imagination could someone think that a Firefox utility falls under this category.

I think this is relevant to this board. Where else would you advertise it? (Aside from the Firefox Extension site).

This extension fits that definition with no trouble. Up until now, when I wanted to search on Maggies for something, I went thru the "especially routine operation" of clicking on my link to Maggies home page, waiting for it to load, then clicking on the "search" link at the bottom and waiting for it to load as well. That process could take an annoyingly long time on occasion. This extension of firefox "facilitates" both of those steps.

You've already acknowledged that it IS a utility in your post. Since the extension is JUST as useless to Firefox users who don't play AC as it is to AC players who don't use Firefox, you're gonna need some serious semantic gymnastics (lol) to argue that it's only relevant to firefox and not to AC. And you have to show that it's ONLY relevant to firefox to win your argument, because showing that it's MORE relevant to firefox wouldn't disqualify it from still being relevant to AC since the categories "AC utility" and "firefox utility" are not mutually exclusive.

Beyone the semantic arguments, these boards clearly don't have a strong exclusionist policy. If they did, at least half of all the threads would be locked or removed for being OT. When a board mod states that the post IS on topic and every other poster but you agrees, it's time to hang it up.
