I really, really, REALLY detest all-in-one plugins (ElTank, LifeTank and Alinco) and find the ones for AC today to be bloated pieces of s**t. I really don't need the ugly elaborate HUDs, macros, counterintuitive and non-sensical self-buffers or a detailed technical essay of the landblock I happen to be in.


What I do want is a SMALL, stand alone, less memory intensive plugin(s) that will ID kills, loot and critters and has DHS to hotkey healing to one button. That's it, for anexample when I last played AC I used BS/2, NB2 and a tiny plugin called One Touch Healing. Does anything similar exist anymore?


-alternatively- please suggest a new bargain video card that will fit into an old p3 866, thanks.

I would highly recommend getting the 256mb version of that card (GeForce 6200 128mb). Since this card is selling for a mere $33 I would suspect the 256mb version could also be found for not much more, probably around $45-60. It's a good card.


As it happens my current video card is also a GeForce 6200, but with 256mb. With this card I have absolutely no problems running Decal with 10 plugins loaded up. My frame rate with the card is good.

The cheapest 256mb version of the one mentioned above is $42 after a $10 rebate:

The reviews of the first one said it ran hot without a fan. The more expensive one does have a fan, in addition to a slightly better graphics processor.

Do not buy a card with VE, SE or LE in the name! Never! In 99% of all cases some older and cheaper card will be just as fast. Careful with XT too - ATI uses that one it's top cards, but Nvidia uses it for tuned down LEs (which means they are more or less utter crap).

Either go for one with no letters in chipset name at all (this means avoiding the FX series at all, too) or go for a XT (ATI) respectively GT (Nvidia).


Personally I would recommend a Nvidia 6600 or 6600GT. If you have 1GB or more RAM even a 128MB version should be plenty to play AC with decal in almost all situations (except live events maybe) - if those are to expensive go for the 6200 with 256MB.

Lino is right ,i have an FX 5900 XT and it sucks.

In that price range a radeon 9800 would have been a lot better and fits perfekt with your 833 mhz cpu.

I have a 6600 with 128MB and can play dual logged with Ltx and several other plugins on both accounts just fine.


Oh, what I forgot in last post: Stay away from cards with "Turbo-Cache" and "Hyper-Memory" too. Those are basically low VRAM versions that use your main RAM if VRAM runs full (which is really not fast anymore).
