Chazcon, your incorrect assumption in the argument is that "Devs owe something to the users of the software they produce." This is not so. The devs are under zero obligation to provide anything at all to the end user unless an explicit promise is made to do so. In this case it was not. On the other side, the user is under zero obligation to use the software (or accompanying database, &c), regardless of whether or not there is an equivalent or competing product available.

Your argument may be from a personal standpoint as a freeware developer, and if so, that's great for you. I highly respect that you feel a sense of devotion to those who use your stuff. Akilla doesn't share this, which doesn't make him a "worse person" or worse developer -- it just is what it is, and I respect akilla as a developer too.

You're obviously free to make commentary on this here on these boards, and that's fine, but in the end no ethical point is being made: it's just a difference of philosophy between two codin' dudes.

Oh thanks for getting it back up, akilla.

Earlier in this post, someone mentioned TS2 giving errors on chars with an apostrophe in their name. I have one char like this and it gives an error when I try to display him on the site. He seems to update ok ingame; allegiance is ok for chars above and below him; his name displays ok in the lists on a skill search. Error is only when I try to display him individually.

Here's the error:

MySQL Error:

Error: 1064: You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'ja al-Schro'' at line 1

Query: SELECT * FROM Chars WHERE Name = 'Za'ja al-Schro'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MySQL Error:

Error: 1064: You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'ja al-Schro%' ORDER BY Name' at line 1

Query: SELECT * FROM Chars WHERE Name LIKE '%Za'ja al-Schro%' ORDER BY Name

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry, no names were returned containing "Za'ja al-Schro" on Any Server. Please widen your search.

Seems like apostrophes aren't legal chars in the search fields but they are legal chars in an AC character name.

Hope you see this Akilla and can code a fix sometime.

looks server-side and shouldn't require a new client.

just need to change the code on the server to properly escape the ' characters.

I'll look into it. I need to find someone's account to borrow so i can create a char with a ' in it to test stuff with. Any offers?

I fixed the bug on the char search page... Is it broken anywhere else? I seem to remember it showing a \' somewhere that it shouldn't, but I don't remember where. Is it on the ingame part?

He's displaying on the site just fine now.

I decided to test out the in-game character lookup and it works for other chars but not mine. So, that needs a look over.

The /' thing...I used to see that on the site but not sure where...not seeing it now though so that might be fixed from what you already did.

I'm finding with my guys with apostrophes that they are now updating in game fine, the links to their pages on the TS site now work....but the data on those pages stopped being updated (I can be accurate here) 5d 22h 24m 42s Ago. It works normally for all characters without ' in the name, but the rest stopped showing new data then.

I reactivated my account and installed AC tonight. I think I've fixed the ' bug, hopefully. Lemme know if it's still a problem.
