I'm not laughing, and oddly enough you still haven't stated it yet. It's well known Decal doesn't work on 98.

So again, if you would like assistance with the issues you are having, please provide any information you can so someone here can try to help. But if your intentions were only to stir up a fuss and spread rumors, I'd have to politely ask you not to do that here =)

Thanks,

-C

and to add to that:

http://forums.acdev.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3434&highlight=log

doesnt seem to rumerish to me...

Hope you can work some magic that I cant see in the obvious becuase it looks like a problem with decalrender.dll to me..

Again I have tried this on multiple computers, clean OS installs, Nvidia, ATI, and more..

I suggest you try to reproduce the problem...

It happens with both El Tank and Life Tank..

It does not happen with just the Decal Hotkey subsystem.

On the other computers I have tried to just install minimal plugins for example decal, windows updates (ect.), and El Tank.

On another computer minimally the same thing but lets say with Life Tank.

Same thing happens...

I notice on the 2nd machine you only have 64megs of video memory. Having read many of the threads here, I've seen that the current version of Decal is a memory hog, and a memory hog program with a memory hog plug-in (read El-Tank and Lifetank) can crash you during login when the acclient is using a great deal of even more memory.

Wow- that's a lot of memory.

Your first machine has 128megs which would be the bare minimum I would dare use for the current version of decal. ALSO when reading past threads, I've read that the next versions of decal will be more video memory friendly.

If you've got the chat clients turned on in El-Tank or Lifetank - try turning them off as my computer gets hung up most often at that point of login.

Well I have narrowed down the problem.

The above post is not correct it has nothing to do with the video memory.

Basically this is my findings:

I was working on machine 1 for a while turning off each filter one at at time looking for something that would take away the bug.

I found it...

It was character stats filter. The problem compeletely vanished when I unchecked character stats.

I could log in and out about 20 times in a row.

I turned it back on.. Problem came back..

I said ok now I went to computer 2.

I disabled character stats.

I logged in and out a few times and bam crash..

I thought hmmm then I looked at the exports a little closer.

If you look at the first machine it has the following:

[msvcp71.dll] : Installed (7.10.3077.0)

Now here is the second machine:

C++ Libraries

[msvbvm60.dll] : Installed (6.0.96.90)

[atl70.dll] : Not Installed

[mfc70.dll] : Not Installed

[msvcr70.dll] : Installed (7.0.9466.0)

[msvcp70.dll] : Not Installed

[atl71.dll] : Not Installed

[mfc71.dll] : Not Installed

[msvcr71.dll] : Installed (7.10.3052.4)

[msvcp71.dll] : Installed (7.10.3077.0)

I installed vbrun60sp5

I installed WindowsXP-Windows2000-Script56-KB917344-x86-enu

on both machines respectively however there was a difference.

nothing changed for the second machine.. The Export remained the same.

The only difference was a different install disk for XP on machine 1.

The one that had all the .dll's installed was from a XP SP1 Install CD.

The one that did not have all the .dll's was installed from a SP2 Install CD.

Now I don't know what significance there is there if any but it's the only difference I could note right off.

So... In my brilliance I did the most complicated thing in the world.

I copied the .dll files from machine 1 to machine 2's system32 directory.

system 2 -> Export

now reads..

C++ Libraries

[msvbvm60.dll] : Installed (6.0.97.82)

[atl70.dll] : Installed (7.0.9466.0)

[mfc70.dll] : Installed (7.0.9466.0)

[msvcr70.dll] : Installed (7.0.9466.0)

[msvcp70.dll] : Installed (7.0.9466.0)

[atl71.dll] : Installed (7.10.3077.0)

[mfc71.dll] : Installed (7.10.3077.0)

[msvcr71.dll] : Installed (7.10.3052.4)

[msvcp71.dll] : Installed (7.10.3077.0)

respectively.

Now both machines can log in and out all day as long as character stats is turned off. As soon as I turn it on they both go back to having problems. I cannot say why the C++ Libraries have anything to do with it but they do.

The whole above problem only pertains to El Tank.

I reproduced the issue on a few machines now and it is consistent...

As for Life Tank I was wrong it does not have a problem logging in and out.. Only when spies is loaded with it does it start giving the same problem that El Tank gives with the following:

szAppName: acclient.exe szAppVer: 0.0.11.2806 szModName: hungapp

szModVer: 0.0.0.0 offset: 0000000

AppName: acclient.exe AppVer: 0.0.112.2806 AppStamp: 4521f14f

ModName: decalrender.dll ModVer: 2.9.5.0 ModStamp: 4486e59d

FDebuf: 0 Offset: 0000a534

However with LifeTank if you disable character stats filter (Life Tank wont work) then you can log in and out again even with spies loaded.

Now hmm let me think here...

El Tank bypasses certain filters yes? I'm not sure I need to research the issue more...

I am not really sure of the conclusion other than these are my findings and I hope they help your whining to me about not providing information.

Now for the question...

Why is character stats the issue in relation with C++ Libraries in this particular manner?

Something has got to be out of order in the code or something..

I have no way of debugging the issue much further and have given it as much time as I feel like giving it as I am not a part of the dev team..

However I assure you that anyone using LifeTank with Spies crashes..

I assure you that many friends online and at the decal boards are complaining of similar crashes with El Tank..

This should be sufficient information.

Do I come off snubb'n?

yeah your attitude sucked when I posted this..

either way for progression I hope it helps others..

Two distinct things to look into:

[msvbvm60.dll] : Installed (6.0.97.82)(machine 1)

[msvbvm60.dll] : Installed (6.0.96.90)(machine 2 "fresh install"

both had the same updates from elgarl's website ran..

vbrun60sp5

WindowsXP-Windows2000-Script56-KB917344-x86-enu

Also:

Another one of my freshly installed XP machines I was installing the above updates and after the export showed the following for C++ Libraries

[msvbvm60.dll] : Installed (6.0.96.90) "fresh install" with vbrun60sp5 ran and WindowsXP-Windows2000-Script56-KB917344-x86-enu

[msvbvm60.dll] : Installed (6.0.96.90)

[atl70.dll] : Not Installed

[mfc70.dll] : Not Installed

[msvcr70.dll] : Not Installed

[msvcp70.dll] : Not Installed

[atl71.dll] : Not Installed

[mfc71.dll] : Not Installed

[msvcr71.dll] : Installed (7.10.3052.4)

[msvcp71.dll] : Installed (7.10.3077.0)

again on this machine the problem was fixed by copying over the C++ Libraries appropriately from machine 1 and disabling character stats.

At a glance it seems obvious that character stats is causing a problem but beyond that I would say msvbvm60.dll version 6.0.96.90 is causing the problem even when character stats filter is turned off.

However if msvbvm60.dll version 6.0.97.82 is installed in the appropriate path with character stats filter disabled then El Tank has no problems logging in and out all day long.

Very similar findings happen with LifeTank and Spies running together however if you disable character stats filter then LifeTank doesnt work so it defeats the purpose the answer here is dont use spies with lifetank as its useless anyway except for more municipal purposes if you know what i mean.

So that's that..

If you have this problem with El Tank try the suggestion..

Hopefully the devs wont act so snobbish and fix the problem...

it's the way you phrased the "question" even though there was no question there.

you were simply ... talking.

it sounded as if you were implying something to do between Decal and the Tank plugins. That is why you got a negative reaction from me... then your failure to post exports even though you were "reporting a problem", and finally your lack of respecting the rules was the final nail in the coffin. You can't selectively choose rules. That's not how it works. You can't only abide by the rules that you see fit. That's not how a cultured society operates.

Don't be lecturing people on rules. The guy is an admitted ucmer in another thread and you're sitting here trying to help him get his ucm plugins working. Come on Drak.

I'm not a hypocrit. I'm not selectively choosing either. I help people.. that's what I do. If someone needs help (regardless of status or situation) I help them. That's the kind of person I am. Doesn't mean I like them, or are happy with what they are doing, but if they have a problem that needs fixing, that's what I'm attempting to do.

Especially considering that the problem is quite likely NOT a plugin issue, but is actually an issue in CharStats (which I think has already been fixed). Sorry you don't like him.. neither do I. But that doesn't mean I won't help someone who needs it.

^That's pretty lame.

"Sorry officer, I knew he just stole from my neighbor". "But I seen that his battery was dead, so I gave him a boost."

call it what you want, but at least I have integrity.

And your analogy is completely off. I'm not helping HIM get his Tanks working.. I'm helping OTHERS with Decal issues that might actually be a legitimate DECAL problem. If it fixes his problem in the meantime, fine. My main goal however is to fix whatever Decal problems there are, and this looks to possibly be one.
