Does this exist? I know there used to be one long ago but this would be a way to help me better manage my burden/pack space or at least remind me that I need to pick more DIs up.
Some ideas I had were the option to select certain items that when flagged for possibly dropping, an alert would appear letting you know you don't have the right death items to cover it. Also since I couldn't find any exact DI calculator have the option to run the plugin that will log current items on the character and what is dropped on death, then be submitted to a database for analysis.

Once upon a time in a decal long long ago there was a DI calc.
Its not been updated as far as I know.
It featured Old Style DI calc, New Style DI calc (it was released shortly after the DI calculation was altered in the game), and the PK Death Calc (for true red players).
I'd point you to the new math for it but I don't even know where it is.
All I know is items that are the same "type" the 2nd and 3rd etc item of that type count as a lower value in the calculation.
So if you were using 12 casting implements the first one of 50k value is full value a 2nd one of 50k value calcs at 25k the 3rd 12.5K
or I could just be out of my mind...
there was a posted list from Turbine once upon a time of what the break down of death item catergories were.
Best advice carry alot of items and make them different things. I love high value UA items cause they weigh next to nothing...
gold .... its not just for selling to vendors any more

I generally carry titan mana charges, which serve two purposes... DI's and mana charges. Whenever I use 4 or 5 of them, I know it's time to go restock.

I always thought it was-- before level 20, you don't drop equiped items
After you drop most valuable item/2 (so if it's 50k, it's counted as 25k) then most expensive afterward.. soemthing like that.. I think I drop like 11 items at 208..

May 2002 Update - Hidden Vein
http://www.renegadeguild.net/History/historymay2002.html
Here is the new system (and again, note that these changes do not affect any PK interactions):
From levels 1-5, players will not lose any items or pyreals upon death.
From levels 6-10, players will not lose any items, but will lose half their pyreals.
From levels 11-20, players will lose half their pyreals, and 1 item. This item will not be an item that the player is wielding. (Wielded includes rings, bracelets, necklaces or armor, as well as weapon and shield).
From levels 21-35, players will lose half their pyreals, and the same amount of non-wielded items that they would have lost previously to the changes in this system.
From levels 35+, there are no changes between the former system and the current system.

Also found this:
How do death items work?
Could you explain how the game decides what you drop when you die?
First, how much you drop depends on your level:
- When you are level 5 or under, you don't drop anything when you die.
- From level 6 to level 10, you lose half your coins (not trade notes) and nothing else.
- From level 11 to level 20, you lose half your coins and possibly one non-wielded item (that is, something that you were neither wearing nor holding in your hands).
- From level 21 to level 35, you lose half your coins and some number of non-wielded items.
- After level 35, you lose half your coins and some number of items. At this point, you can drop items that you were wearing or holding.
Now, in those last two cases, I said 'some number'. Some number here is equal to your level divided by 10, rounded down, plus a random number between 0 and 2. So from level 21 to 29 you can lose between two and four items; from 30 to 39 you can lose three to five items; from 40 to 49 you can lose four to six items, and so forth. By level 126 you can be losing up to 14 items!
(One caveat here: if you were killed in a PK battle, you always lose items as if you were over level 35, although the exact number you lose is still determined by your real level / 10. In other words, PK deaths do not get the special protection from item loss that NPK deaths get under level 35.)
So that's how many items you lose on death -- but how do we determine which items are lost? This is where the categories come into it.
Each item in the game has a particular item type associated with it. The actual types (categories) are listed below. When we are deciding what items you drop on death, we make a list of all the items you are carrying, sorted by value (high value first). But we may adjust their values in two ways. If the item is not the most valuable item in that category, then we cut its value in half. And whether or not it is the most valuable item in its category, we randomize its value a little bit to mix things up. (To answer your first question explicitly, the cutting-the-value-in-half is not cumulative -- the second- and third- and fouth-most valuable items of one category all have their values halved, not halved and then quartered and then eighthed.)
Now note that we still keep these things in a list sorted by adjusted value -- so its possible to have your two expensive weapons listed first and second, if the value of the second weapon cut in half is still higher than the value of the third item. What I am trying to get at here is that we do not segregate the list based on item type; we only use item type to determine how we adjust the value of the item.
Finally, we go down the list and mark the first # things as dropped, where # is the number of items we have calculated that you are going to drop this death. For instance, if you are level 48, you will drop the first 4-6 items on that list.
The categories of items are:
- melee weapons
- missile weapons
- magic casters (like orbs & wands)
- armor
- clothing
- jewelry
- food
- gems
- components
- mana stones
- crafting ingredients
- parchments & books
- keys
- tradenotes
- miscellaneous
(I've left out a few categories -- like lifestones -- because you aren't likely to be carrying an item of that type.)

And this which is from July 2005
The number of items that you drop on death currently depends on two factors ~ your level and the cause of death ~ that is, whether the death was caused by PK combat, PKL combat, or by some other cause. We will be adding a new factor to this: is the character on a Throne of Destiny account?
The "old formula", ignoring all other factors, is currently your level divided by ten, with a chance of dropping an additional one or two items. This formula will generally apply to characters on accounts that have not purchased Throne of Destiny.
The "new formula", again ignoring all other factors, will be your level divided by twenty, with a chance of dropping an additional one or two items. This formula will generally apply to characters on accounts that have purchased Throne of Destiny.
Here's the full system:
PKL Deaths: No change ~ No items dropped, as before.
NPK Deaths at or below level 10: No change ~ No items dropped, as before.
NPK Deaths from level 11 to level 20: No change ~ 1 non-wielded item dropped, as before.
NPK Deaths above level 20: Changed.
Non-Throne of Destiny: Uses the old formula, but only non-wielded items may be dropped.
Throne of Destiny: Uses the new formula, but only non-wielded items may be dropped.
NPK Deaths above level 35:
Non-Throne of Destiny: Uses the old formula. Since characters without Throne of Destiny can only reach level 126, the maximum number of items dropped is 14.
Throne of Destiny: Uses the new formula, for a maximum of 15 items dropped.
PK Deaths: PK deaths will always use the old formula but will cap at an effective level of 126. So a PK death will never drop more than 12-14 items (126/10 items plus a chance of one or two additional items). This is true whether or not the character has Throne of Destiny.
So in conclusion, characters on a Throne of Destiny account will generally drop fewer items from an NPK death than they did before, and at the very highest levels the number of items dropped will be about the same as at the very highest levels before. We felt it was best not to change the death penalties in PK ~ taking a foe's death items is one of the rewards of a successful PK kill and we didn't want to change the existing balance.

I have no clue how to program but seems like the plugin wouldn't be too difficult to create. Create a list of all the items you have on your character sorted by value and category. The highest valued item in any one category remains, whereas all others in that category have their values halved. Flag the top 14 of those as items that will be dropped upon your next death, and if an item that you have "flagged" as one you don't want to drop, have some sort of notification appear telling you so. If anyone has the know-how to make this as well as the spare time, I'd love to see it
