Decal is known to cause some serious slow-downs when a decal window is open; the effect varies depending on the graphics card you're using. A new version is in the works that should minimize the impact of open windows, but there's no ETA in sight yet.

Buy a new computer with a better video card.

are u dumb? This computer has 3 times the ram and 2x the video memory than my old computer and it does it fine. Maybe a problem with the video card driver who knows but Im pretty sure my 6 month old computer can handle it if my 4 year old one can.

Why even comment if your dumb?

they won't say it but I will...

Donations to fund the caffeine requirements of the people coding and testing the new Decal would help.

Decal is not supported by Turbine and you get what you pay for.

In the meantime, lower your screen resolution, lower the level of detail.

Being in windowed mode is ALWAYS going to generate lag in the system, even with the new Decal.

Even if you can't see it, its still rendering everything under the active window.

All you can do right now is find ways to compensate for how you wish to play.

Your card might have a base of 256 meg but its using -

[MemoryLocalised] : 1774 MB

[MemoryEnglish] : 1774 MB

There can be arguments made that using system ram slows everything down, its going to be a matter of fine tuning your system to meet your needs what will make it bearable. Try cutting back to the base 256 and see if there is a change. Boost it more, boost it less. Its all trial and error, no 2 computers (except those purchased same time same place same everything inside) are the same.

[DisplayLocalised] : 1920 x 1200 (32 bit) (60Hz)

[DisplayEnglish] : 1920 x 1200 (32 bit) (60Hz)

Dats a little high for a laptop to handle I would think.

The Readyboost feature is actually useful, I have a laptop that wants to play CNC3... it plays it but not terribly well. Add a readyboost flash drive and turn it on and it ran alot smoother. Worked for me, might not work for you. Flash drives are cheap and its easy to tell if its helping or not.

Laptop chips are not always directly comparable to desktop chips.

Oooh check your power profile settings, if they are set lower your chip then runs slower giving you longer battery life at the expense of processor speed.

Your Mileage May Vary.

Suggestions and hints are just that, I do not know where the Holy Grail is.

HUDS are the devil... if you don't need it... don't open it or let it run.

And just because I'm feeling like a noob, WTF is the FOG plugin?

wubbie - But then what could a chef know

That isn't guaranteed to fix the issue.

The problem is not with your computer, nor is it something you can fix. Faster RAM/CPU/GPU might improve your framerate, but you'll still see a large drop when you open a decal window.

Like has been mentioned, the current Decal view system is slow. When Turbine updated the game for ToD, they changed AC to use a newer version of DirectX, which broke the way Decal had draws its windows. In order to get Decal working sooner, the Decal devs used a non-optimal way of drawing that still let them keep most of the old view system code. The result is a drop in framerate when you have a decal window open, and it's especially pronounced with big plugins like LifeTank. But! it's better than no Decal at all

They're currently working on a new view system (aptly called New View System) that has much better performance. There's no ETA for it.

I run in such a small resolution now because I got used to it and when I change it back everything seems so big

FOG is a program developed by a Darktider that has many cool features.

How do I adjust the amount of memory I am using for graphics.

Running at a lower screen resolution and using lower-quality textures will do the most to reduce the amount of graphics memory the game needs. (Lower screen resolution = everything looks bigger but you have less screen space). It's worth trying: see if lowering your screen resolution and/or texture detail improves your frame rate while life tank is opened.

If you're referring to what Wubbie wrote, Vista handles the allocation of system (shared) RAM for the video card automatically -- it's not something that you can control AFAIK. If a game needs more than your video card has built in, Vista will allocate some system RAM to handle the extra requirement. If it didn't do that, the game might crash, or you could see graphics anomalies like missing (white) textures, or the game would try to handle the lack of memory itself by doing something like automatically reducing texture detail.

went to 800x600. its the smallest I can go. Frame rate still drops to 4-5 with a decal window open

Digero - As I remember there is usually a BIOS setting that lets you set the cap to how much system ram to share with the video card.
